Helping children and parents experiencing the difficult process of divorce or separation through storytelling.
Bree’s thesis work, In the Middle, is a book for children and parents who are experiencing the difficult process of divorce or separation. The book is meant to help both parents and children cope with the complex emotions associated with such a transition. The book does so by using storytelling to convey difficult situations where the child may be stuck “in the middle”. It is through this relatable storytelling that an opportunity for communication between the child and parent can be created. The characters in the book are represented as robots, allowing a comfortable distance to be maintained and allowing all types of families to contribute to the discussion. The parent prompt allows the opportunity for dialogue between the parent and child.
